General Dosage Guidelines

Dosage is one of the most common sources of confusion in beginning herbal practice, and it is also one of the areas where the gap between what is useful and what is usually written down is widest.

Most herbal books give ranges. Two to four milliliters of tincture, one to three cups of tea, five hundred to one thousand milligrams of capsule. These ranges are real and they are where you start. But they leave a beginner without the most important information: how to move within a range, how to know if a dose is working, how to adjust when it isn’t, and how to think about dosage across the many different variables that affect how an herb works in any given person.

This article covers all of that. It gives you the standard reference ranges you need, and then it gives you the thinking that makes those ranges actually useful.
